Ambassador Henry "Hank" Cooper

Director, Strategic Defense Initiative Organization (1989-1993)

Ambassador Henry “Hank” Cooper was appointed as the first civilian director of the SDIO by

Hank Cooper

President George H.W. Bush on July 10, 1990. By the time he left office on Jan. 20,1993, he and his team had devised our first, ready-to-deploy space-based missile defense system, Brilliant Pebbles. Incoming SecDef Les Aspin killed the system, remarking that the Clinton administration aimed to “take the stars out of star wars.”

Hank now directs missile defense programs at High Frontier, a non-partisan educational foundation. (A full bio and info on High Frontier is available here). I am proud to have Ambassador Cooper’s endorsement and, if elected, will work to ensure we continue to build robust missile defenses to defend the American homeland and our troops and allies overseas.
