LIFE

I had the wonderful experience of meeting Nicaraguan-born singer and evangelist Toni Melendez at a recent Rally for Life at a Knights of Columbus hall in Silver Spring. Toni is one of those “accidents” that the abortion-on-demand lobby believes should have been scraped from the womb. His mother had taken thalidomide during her pregnancy, so Toni was born with no arms. Many perfectly normal people might have recoiled at the sight of their child born with such a deformity. But Toni’s family surrounded him with love and their faith in God, and so Toni grew up with an ambition: to play the guitar.

Exactly how he does this (with his feet!) is an amazing sight to watch. But even more amazing is the love of God and sense of humor that emanates from this blessed man. Toni burst onto the international scene when he played for Pope John Paul II in 1987. The Pope was so taken that he jumped off his own stage and ran over to embrace him and to bless him.

Science is now giving us new tools to appreciate the wonder and mystery of life in ways never before available. Just have a look at these videos…..

I believe we need to promote a culture of life, not a culture that promotes abortion-on-demand at any stage of pregnancy as a “choice.” This starts by defending the family as the bedrock of our society, and by supporting nonprofit organizations that help pregnant women in need of health care, counseling, and other support.

I believe that Partial Birth abortion is an abomination, and I cannot comprehend how anyone could support it. I will join any and all efforts to ensure it cannot be practiced in the United States.

I oppose taxpayer-funded abortions, both at home or abroad, and will vote to defund Planned Parenthood. As the recent shakedown of the Komen Foundation proved, the advocates of abortion-on-demand are perfectly capable of funding this organization without tax dollars from Americans who feel it violates their moral core.

However, for as long as taxpayer dollars still go to funding abortions, I will support legislation requiring sonograms for women contemplating an abortion to help young women, in particular, to better understand the life growing inside of them.

We need to protect and defend the unborn, not find new schemes for dehumanizing them.
